CHIMIREC Turkey: a successful operational audit

CHIMIREC Turkey: a successful operational audit

For over twenty years, the CHIMIREC Group has been expanding its international presence to export its technical expertise to countries seeking to implement waste management practices that are both environmentally friendly and compliant with current regulations.

Fully committed to a process of continuous improvement across all levels of the organisation, the CHIMIREC Group achieved triple certification in Quality, Safety and the Environment for its French subsidiaries as early as 2012.

In keeping with this approach, CHIMIREC France expects its international subsidiaries to uphold the same high standards. That is why the Group’s head office regularly sends expert staff to the sites to support them in implementing best practices and, subsequently, to carry out audits.

Operational audit of CHIMIREC Avrasya

Martial Fixot, Project Manager for Operations, and François de Tarragon, the Group’s Chief Executive, spent three days at the Gebze site.

In recent years, CHIMIREC Avrasya has established itself in Turkey as a leading producer of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), drawing on the expertise gained in this field by its French subsidiaries, CHIMIREC Javené and CHIMIREC Socodeli Beaucaire.

With a buoyant local market, driven by strong demand from cement manufacturers for alternative fuel supplies, CHIMIREC Avrasya has recently carried out refurbishment work on its storage facilities to accommodate more waste at the site and has acquired new equipment to increase its RDF production capacity. Today, the Turkish subsidiary CHIMIREC is the only facility within the entire Group to be equipped with four in-line grinders. In the first quarter of 2026, it produced 16,000 tonnes of RDF, in line with its targets set out in the 2026 budget.

On the other hand, the current energy crisis is creating a climate of uncertainty that is likely to slow down production.

On-site audit visit

During his audit visit to the site, Martial Fixot was able to assess the merits of the extension work on the waste storage areas and check that they complied with regulations. The safety of people, the safety of facilities, and the safety of the environment  are  CHIMIREC Group’s top priorities, both in France and internationally. Martial Fixot has, in fact, identified areas for improvement to ensure that CHIMIREC Avrasya can fully meet the Group’s expectations regarding its production line. About accident statistics, it has been agreed that the Turkish subsidiary will expand its reporting to include all near-misses as well as environmental incidents, whether relating to soil, water or air.

Furthermore, given the growth in RDF’s production, it is necessary to recruit new staff, creating additional posts in operations, as well as in the chemistry laboratory and the after-sales service. As for the sales department, Martial Fixot has met two new staff members who were recently hired.

CHIMIREC Turkey is therefore continuing to expand, with the next step expected to be the opening of a second production site in the country. The land has been acquired, and the first planning permissions are already being sought.
