Industrial effluent treatment: CHIMIREC know-how to export
Whether in the textile, food, aeronautical, automotive, metallurgical, chemical, pharmaceutical or any other industry, industrial processes generate effluent and sludge on their production sites. Potentially dangerous for the environment and public health, their treatment is subject to strict regulations.
Depending on the type of industrial activity, liquid pollutant discharges have different characteristics, requiring treatment methods adapted to the nature of their components. This is why each type of effluent must be analysed precisely to determine the appropriate treatment. Besides ensuring optimum pollution control in compliance with current regulations, the CHIMIREC Group has set up processes for recycling industrial effluents. Its French subsidiary Aretzia specialises in the treatment and recovery of aqueous effluents. These require both specific professional skills and cutting-edge technologies.
The CHIMIREC Group's expertise
Located in Loire-Atlantique (44), the Aretzia site, set up on a brownfield site covering more than 20 hectares, manages the decontamination and recovery of industrial effluent and hydrocarbon waste from manufacturers and collectors in the Brittany and Pays de la Loire regions. Once the effluent has been analysed by the on-site laboratory, the pre-treatment process removes macro-waste, sand and hydrocarbons, and separates the phases by decantation.
The treatment consists of three phases:
- The first phase is a physical-chemical treatment followed by a solid/liquid separation accelerated by fine bubbles. The result is clear water free of metals and hydrocarbons.
- The second phase takes place in a biological tank, where bacteria degrade the residual pollution present in the water. Aerators mechanically stir the pool, providing the oxygen necessary for bacterial life.
- In the third phase, the water is filtered through a sand filter and then adsorbed on activated carbon to eliminate micropollutants and non-biodegradable substances.
CHIMIREC Aretzia is authorised to treat 45,000 tonnes of waste a year, and currently treats more than 25,000 tonnes of liquid waste a year, as well as 600 tonnes of acids and bases. It also recycles 600 tonnes of used cooling fluids.
Under the management of Alan Cariou, Aretzia has launched several development and technological innovation projects to improve its water treatment and decontamination methods.
International expansion in industrial effluent treatment
Drawing on the expertise of its subsidiary Aretzia, the CHIMIREC Group plans to pass on its know-how to its teams in its international subsidiaries in Poland, Turkey and Morocco. FEC Technologie, one of its two Canadian subsidiaries, already has a contaminated water treatment unit. There are plans to equip it with an even more efficient filtration system to meet the growing needs of local industries.
In the other countries where the CHIMIREC Group operates, the treatment of industrial effluents represents a definite potential for the development of its activities. Already recognised for its expertise in the production of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), in Turkey and Morocco, the CHIMIREC Group will be able to diversify its hazardous waste management services internationally.
